人间再无吕不韦。

世代如落叶，一代出生一代凋谢。吕不韦这一撒手人寰，自己固然得到了解脱，却给他的家属和舍人们留下道难题。

如我们所知，吕不韦虽然已经远离秦国的权力中心，也不再担任相国一职。但他毕竟还是秦国的文信侯，食着河南雒阳十万户，无论是在名义上还是在实质上，他都仍然是秦国的臣子。按照惯例，他这种级别的人物一旦过世，必须停尸宅内，先向咸阳报告，等待秦王对其治丧事宜作出具体批示，而不能私自做主，说埋就给埋了。

关于如何处置吕不韦的后事，吕不韦的家属和舍人们起了分歧。家属们主张先向咸阳报告，再作理会。而舍人们则哀主人之冤死，怒嬴政之无情，他们担心，说不定嬴政会以平民之礼，将吕不韦胡乱葬之，嬴政已经欺凌主人于生前，绝不能再让他侮辱主人于地下，于是主张先以诸侯之礼将吕不韦下葬，等木已成舟，再奏请咸阳批准。舍人们人多势众，家属们哪里争执得过，只得依从。

于是，舍人宾客数千人窃共葬吕不韦于河南洛阳北芒山，与其妻合冢。因为吕不韦的妻子下葬在先，故其冢在民间仍被称为吕母冢。
